Nicaea Academy: International Student Program
Nicaea Academy offers a unique and rewarding academic and spiritual experience for international students. The student body is racially, culturally and economically diverse, providing a realistic, edifying introduction to America. Staff is not only highly trained, but bring to the classroom a wealth of public and private-sector experience. Currently, the student body is approximately 20% Hispanic, African-American, Native American and Pacific Islander. Of that number, 15 students and parents are recent arrivals to the United States. Nicaea Academy is known throughout the region as a haven for students whose command of the English language is minimal, as is their knowledge of American customs and traditions. Staff and parent-volunteers go out of their way to accommodate students and their parents, assisting them feel welcome, learn the language, and assimilate into our culture without losing touch with their native mores and values. Nicaea Academy features an enviable 12:1 student- teacher ratio. Small class sizes enable teachers to provide effective group instruction and personalized support, of particular import to international students who often need extra help in the initial stages of their classroom development. Add to that a school day that underscored by constructive discipline, measurable performance, leadership development, cooperation and teamwork, and prayer, reflection and spiritual growth, and the Nicaea Experience is truly an international experience.
